Project Sunrise Horticulture Program
Access to healthy, fresh food and green spaces should be the right of every Calgarian. Unfortunately there are a number of us that simply cannot access parks and community gardens because of cost, transportation, limited mobility and lack of knowledge. To connect marginalized Calgarians with nature, Parks Foundation Calgary is using a new approach with our horticulture program beginning in 2012.
Project Sunrise works towards community development using gardening. We partner with other organizations to engage diverse groups of participants who are responsible for the care and cultivation of the gardens at Haultain Park and Calgary Rotary Challenger Park. Participants learn how to grow their own edible gardens full of vegetables, herbs and flowers and also learn ways to use the items they have grown.
