For more than two years, Parks Foundation Calgary has been working towards initiating a pilot project on a brownfield site in Calgary. In 2012 considerable efforts were put in to moving this project forward. The vision is to create a demonstration public education, remediation and reclamation research site that has the potential of making a brownfield site into more productive land.

Key to the success of the project vision is our partnership with Olds College, Olds College has the applied research experience and capabilities necessary to showcase this project as a centre for sustainable development. With a new presence in Calgary at the Bow Valley College Campus, Olds College has the potential to use the site for student and public education.

In spring 2013, Parks Foundation Calgary formed a Stakeholder Committee in the development of a Strategic/Master Plan for a brownfield site. After reviewing the strategies for developing a project on a brownfield site, the Committee suggested Old Refinery Park in the community of Ogden as a potential test site.
