Thank you to everyone who joined us today for the Calgary Greenway Walk-With-Us Festival!
The festival was a huge success, with more than 400 people participating in our eight-kilometer walk along the Calgary Greenway in northeast Calgary.
Parks Foundation Calgary held the free walk and family festival to promote the Greenway, its largest-ever project. When completed, the Greenway will encircle the city with a 118-km network of pathways, wetlands, dog parks, fitness areas, playgrounds and more.
The City of Calgary was one of the major supporters of the Greenway’s first phase, which runs for 13 kilometres between Airport Trail NE and 17th Avenue SE. It includes pathways, wetlands, playgrounds, a dog park and several rest areas. Other major supporters and contributors include Don and Hazel Skinner, Jim Davidson, CN, ARC Resources Ltd., the Government of Canada and Government of Alberta.
Phase 2 of the Greenway will be completed later this year, adding 26 kilometres to the Greenway and extending it through Fish Creek Provincial Park and to the west end of the Glenmore Reservoir. By 2013, 60 per cent of the Greenway’s route will be completed.
