Martin Family Legacy Garden - A Dementia Inclusive Park
A first-of-its-kind outdoor space designed with and for people living with dementia, their caregivers and families.
20,000 Calgarians are living with dementia right now. By 2030, this number is expected to reach 34,000. Despite the large number of Calgarians impacted both directly and indirectly, there are no public outdoor spaces designed to meet the unique needs of those living with dementia and those who love them. This is why Parks Foundation is committed to bringing Canada’s first-ever dementia inclusive park to Calgary, ensuring that every Calgarian has a place to embrace their outdoor life.
The Martin Family Legacy Garden will serve not only as a physical space for outdoor engagement but also as a powerful tool for raising awareness and reducing stigma. The park design will include safety features, sensory features and increased signage and wayfinding to ensure that this is a dementia inclusive space.

Martin Family Legacy Garden will serve is located in Southview Park in community of Dover - SE Calgary
Southview park was chosen for several reasons including its proximity to seniors residences and support programs, transit options and accessibility.

Groundbreaking Event
On May 29, 2025, we had the honour to celebrate this significant occasion with over 70 supporters as we officially broke ground on Martin Family Legacy Garden, Canada's first-ever dementia inclusive park!
Construction Updates
Construction is underway! Martin Family Legacy Garden is expected to complete in summer/fall of 2026.
